LIKOZI Rhodesian Ridgebacks

Welcome on our website. We are Leendert & Nathascha den Herder. We are interested in the Rhodesian Ridgeback since 1999. We were both postal workers beside our studies. During her postal round Nathascha saw a family with a ridgeback of 8 years old. Nathascha fell in love with the Rhodesian Ridgeback at that moment. Even more when a puppy was added to the peoples family. Leendert was at that moment very much interested in the Wolf Dogs like the Czech and the Saarloos Wolf Dog.

We have a Ridgeback named Luca since 7 January 2005. He is a rescue dog which we got from the RRIN (Dutch Rescue Rhodesian Ridgeback fund). This went very spontaneously. Half December 2004 we asked for a rescue dog at the RRIN and within a month Luca became part of our family.

Since 7 August 2005 we got another Rhodesian Ridgeback bitch, named: Vizara Likozi Karamu. Her name Vizara means: “Horn of plenty”, Likozi is: “A mountain in Malawi”, Karamu means: “Precious Gift”. We are very happy with her as “part of the family” and thanks to her, Luca knows again how to act as a young dog. Luca had some problems with adapting, which is quite normal, because a RR is very much in favor to its owner. That’s why the RR is not easy to replace, but with a lot of time and effort by its new owners it proved possible.

With Likozi we attend dog shows. Up to now she is doing very well and achieved many “excellent” results. Luca does some dog shows in the “castrate” class. Furthermore we train cycling with both dogs for the “condition test”. We think this is very important because the Ridgeback is a “Scent Hound”.

We are members of the Dutch Rhodesian Ridgeback Club (RRCN) and we conform to its “Code of Ethics” (COE). We will breed according the rules of the RRCN and COE. For more information regarding these rules you can take a look on the website of the RRCN.
